History:
Helena was born in Ancient Rome, back when Latin wasn't a dead language, but a spoken one. She was one of the fairest maidens in Rome, but also one of the most modest; she was a weaver and a storyteller both, and was renowned for the tales she'd tell by firelight as she wove the very tale into her tapestries, and people would barter to purchase them as if they were souvenirs of the week or so spent listening to her story.
Helena attracted the attention of many suitors, of course, and her father was pleased by this, but he was a man of means as well as ego, and was convinced that he could get an even better match for her than whatever the current match was. He was always looking for the next best thing. Then, one day, that thing came, stowed away into a gathering, listening to one of her stories. He called himself Aesir, and he wanted Helena for his own. He made her father an offer he couldn't refuse.
Aesir was pale beyond all imagination, in stark contrast to her Mediterranean colouration. He spoke in a dialect that Helena couldn't understand, and she was taken to his homeland, what would be known as Scandanavia. There she learned his language and his lifestyle, and the curious way he slept during the day and was not to be disturbed, and yet he always came to her at night to claim her. After two years of this, Helena could resist her curiosity no longer, and entreated him to tell her why he acted in this manner.
Instead, he showed her. Aesir turned Helena into a vampire and kept her under his wing for many a year, wherein they flourished, as he was a master as she would soon become. They spent so many years in the land that Helena soon became a part of their folklore; ironically, Aesir had named himself for their pantheon, whereas Helena became part of it.
She was known to the Norse as Hel, ruler of the realm of the dead, daughter of the Trickster; she who was so beautiful she could entreat any man to his knees, at the same time as cause a war within him because of fear of her rotting skin. According to legend, the man would drive himself mad, unsure whether to go to her and love her, or to run screaming from fright. How much legends are true is up to the believer.
However, with the Fall of Rome, Helena went into a depression and didn't find the same things as thrilling as she once did. Helena entreated the aid of a powerful witch, who helped Helena into a deathlike sleep for hundreds of years without fully 'dying.' When the Council assembled in Paris for the first time, though, the power was felt, and Helena rose again to the call of her bloodline's master. She has been awake ever since.
